INTRODUCTION
Replacement heating elements often look simple, but small dimensional or electrical differences can affect fit, power, temperature and life.
A reliable replacement should reproduce the functional requirements of the original part, not only its visible shape.
1. Start With the Application
Confirm equipment type, heating medium, normal and maximum temperature, duty, contact condition and installation orientation.
2. Required Dimensions
Provide tube or cartridge diameter, overall length, active heated length, cold-zone length, bend radius, center-to-center distance, flange size, thread size, mounting-hole pattern, terminal length and lead-wire length.
3. Electrical Data
Provide rated voltage, rated power, phase, branch or element resistance if known, star/delta connection for three-phase assemblies, quantity of elements and terminal connection.
If resistance is known:
P = V² / Rbut the intended voltage and circuit arrangement must still be confirmed.
4. Material Data
Provide sheath material, flange or fitting material, fin material, terminal material, lead-wire insulation and sealing material where known.
5. Photos and Samples
Useful photos include full product, terminal end, mounting structure, bend shape, nameplate, installed position and damaged area.
6. Do Not Copy the Original Blindly
A replacement review may identify excessive surface watt density, poor terminal sealing, insufficient cold zone, unsuitable sheath material, weak mounting structure or lead-wire temperature problems.
If exact interchangeability is required, dimensional compatibility takes priority. If performance improvement is allowed, changes should be confirmed before production.
7. Inspection and Testing
Depending on product type, agreed scope and available test capability, inspection may include:
- dimensional inspection
- resistance measurement
- insulation-resistance test
- dielectric-withstand test
- leakage-current test
- surface-finish / visual inspection
- terminal inspection
- functional energization test
Specific test capability, test standard, acceptance criteria and whether a test report is included should be confirmed before order.
8. Tolerance and Fit
Critical dimensions may include cartridge-heater diameter, mold-bore fit, flange bolt pattern, thread dimensions, immersion length, U-bend center distance and terminal clearance.
Do not publish one universal tolerance table for all heating elements. Critical tolerances should be marked on the approved drawing.
9. RFQ Checklist
Drawing or sample; application; medium; voltage; power; diameter; overall length; active heated length; cold zones; shape and bend dimensions; mounting details; sheath material; terminal structure; working temperature; quantity; required tests; critical tolerances.

Engineering Note
The formulas, examples and values in this guide are for technical explanation and preliminary engineering reference only. They do not constitute a final heater selection, guaranteed performance value or project commitment. Final design must be confirmed from the actual medium, temperature, pressure, surface watt density, material compatibility, manufacturing feasibility, applicable standards and agreed supply scope.
