Industrial Electric Heating System RFQ, I/O, FAT and Documentation Checklist

INTRODUCTION

Integrated electric heating projects move faster when the process data, supply boundary, control interface and document requirements are defined before detailed engineering.

1. Process Datasheet

Provide:

  • medium and composition

  • temperature range
  • target outlet temperature
  • working pressure
  • design pressure
  • allowable pressure drop
  • viscosity vs temperature
  • fouling / solids / water content
  • heating duty
  • startup condition
  • operating schedule

2. Mechanical Scope

Clarify whether supply includes:

  • heater
  • pump(s)
  • strainer
  • valves
  • piping
  • insulation
  • skid frame
  • drains / vents
  • relief device
  • expansion equipment
  • heat tracing
  • supports

3. Electrical Scope

Provide:

  • supply voltage
  • phase
  • frequency
  • available short-circuit data where required
  • main incoming point
  • cable entry
  • control voltage
  • customer electrical standard
  • hazardous-area classification

Clarify whether supply includes:

  • main control cabinet
  • local junction boxes
  • VFD
  • SCR
  • PLC/HMI
  • local cables
  • field cables outside skid

4. Instrument Scope

Define:

  • temperature instruments
  • pressure instruments
  • flow instruments
  • level instruments
  • differential pressure
  • valve position feedback
  • pump status
  • local gauges

Specify instrument make or approved vendor list if required.

5. I/O List

A preliminary I/O list should identify:

  • signal tag
  • description
  • signal type
  • source
  • destination
  • normal state
  • alarm/trip function
  • range / engineering unit for analog signals

This reduces late control changes.

6. Cause-and-Effect Matrix (Cause & Effect)

For complex systems, define:

  • initiating event
  • alarm
  • heater action
  • pump action
  • valve action
  • latch / reset requirement
  • customer DCS signal

Examples:

  • low flow → heater trip
  • high-high (HH) temperature → heater trip + manual reset where required
  • pump failure → heater trip
  • emergency stop (E-stop) → remove heater power and execute agreed safe state

7. Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Scope

The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) can include, as agreed:

  • visual inspection
  • dimensional check
  • component verification
  • wiring check
  • continuity / earth check
  • insulation-resistance test
  • dielectric-withstand test where applicable
  • panel power-on
  • PLC / HMI function check
  • alarm/interlock simulation
  • I/O simulation
  • communication test
  • pump rotation / motor test where practical
  • instrument certificate review
  • pressure test where applicable and included
  • nameplate / marking check

Exact tests and acceptance criteria should be agreed before production completion.

8. Mechanical Documents

Typical documents:

  • general arrangement
  • skid layout
  • nozzle orientation
  • P&ID
  • piping isometric where required
  • foundation / anchor drawing
  • lifting drawing
  • equipment datasheets
  • material list

9. Electrical / Control Documents

Typical documents:

  • single-line diagram
  • schematic
  • wiring diagram
  • control-panel GA
  • terminal plan
  • cable schedule (Cable Schedule)
  • I/O list
  • instrument list
  • cause-and-effect matrix (Cause & Effect)
  • alarm/trip matrix
  • control narrative
  • communication map

10. Quality and Certification Documents

As agreed, documentation may include:

  • inspection records
  • material certificates
  • pressure-test records
  • calibration certificates
  • electrical test records
  • Ex certificates
  • conformity documents
  • third-party inspection records
  • FAT report

Documentation is supplied according to the confirmed order scope.

11. Customer Approval Cycle

Define:

  • document submittal schedule
  • review duration
  • number of revision cycles
  • approval status codes
  • language
  • file format
  • required hard copies

Uncontrolled late changes can affect price and delivery.

12. Site Interfaces

Confirm:

  • process tie-ins
  • electrical supply point
  • grounding
  • customer DCS
  • utility air
  • drainage
  • ventilation
  • foundation

FAQ

Why define the I/O list during RFQ stage?
It helps identify control scope and customer interfaces early, reducing late changes.
Is FAT always included?
FAT scope depends on the project and should be agreed in the quotation or contract.
Can the system be shipped fully assembled?
Often yes for smaller skids, while larger systems may require modular shipment because of transport limits.
Can Xiangyuan provide project drawings and documentation?
Project documentation can be provided according to the agreed scope, including GA, P&ID, electrical drawings, I/O lists and operation documents where applicable.

Engineering Note

This series is for technical explanation and preliminary engineering reference. Final skid or system design must be confirmed from the actual medium, process duty, pressure, temperature, hydraulic conditions, hazardous-area requirements, electrical supply, control philosophy, site layout, applicable standards, transport limits and agreed supply scope.
