AIR HEATING ELEMENT
Finned Tubular Heating Element
Custom Finned Heating Elements for Air Heating, Duct Heaters and Drying Equipment
Xiangyuan Machinery manufactures custom finned tubular heating elements for industrial air heating, electric duct heaters, ovens, drying equipment and hot air circulation systems.
By adding metal fins to the tubular heating element surface, the heating element provides a larger heat transfer area and improves heat exchange between the element and moving air. It is suitable for forced-air heating applications where stable heat transfer, compact installation and reliable operation are required.
Product Overview
A finned tubular heating element is a tubular electric heating element with metal fins fixed around the outer sheath. The fins increase the heat transfer surface area and allow air to absorb heat more efficiently during forced-air heating.
Compared with a plain tubular heating element, a finned design is more suitable for air ducts, ovens, dryers, hot air circulation systems and other equipment where air passes across the heating element surface.
The element can be manufactured in straight, U-shaped, W-shaped or customized shapes according to the installation space, airflow direction, mounting method and required heating power.

Structure, Materials, Control and Safety
Structure of the Heating Element
The finned tubular heating element includes:
- Tubular heating element
- Metal fins
- Resistance wire
- Magnesium oxide insulation
- Metal sheath
- Terminal rod
- Mounting structure
- Optional flange or bracket
During operation, heat generated by the internal resistance wire is transferred through compacted magnesium oxide insulation to the metal sheath, then to the fins and finally to the passing air.
Materials and Customization
Material selection depends on air temperature, humidity, corrosion level, airflow condition and installation environment.
Common material options include:
– SS304 tube and stainless steel fins for general industrial air heating
– SS316L tube for humid or mildly corrosive environments
– SS310S or Incoloy tube for higher-temperature applications
– Carbon steel or stainless steel fins according to cost and working conditions
– Customized terminal structure, mounting bracket or flange assembly
Control System
Finned tubular heating elements are usually installed as part of a complete air heater, duct heater, oven or drying system. Temperature control and electrical protection are normally configured at the complete heater or control cabinet level.
Control options can include:
– Thermostat control
– Temperature controller
– PID temperature control
– SCR power regulation
– Contactor control
– PLC control cabinet
– Airflow interlock
– Over-temperature alarm and shutdown
Safety Protection
Because a finned tubular heating element is normally installed inside a duct heater, oven or air heating system, safety protection should be designed together with the complete equipment.
Available protection options include:
– Over-temperature protection
– Airflow interlock or fan interlock
– Grounding protection
– Leakage protection
– Short-circuit protection
– High-temperature terminal protection
– Temperature sensor or thermostat near the heating zone
– Proper element spacing to avoid local overheating
